The Secret to Success: What is the difference between DOING and TRYING!? Part 6

Doing:  You CAN’T WAIT to get STARTED!

You know when you’re actually doing something when you CAN’T WAIT to get STARTED!

TRYing: You CAN’T WAIT to be FINISHED.

It’s clearly evident that you are trying when you can’t wait to be FINISHED.

Earlier I had mentioned that not everything you will be doing to create your financial future will be overly stimulating or an impassioned activity. So, let me clarify this principle for you.  What should be getting you excited may not always be the activity itself, but the VISION of where you are GOING!

If you only do things when you “feel like” doing them, you are being run by your emotions and have no power over yourself!

“I don’t feel like doing that” or “I don’t feel like it today” are things a 6 year old can get away with saying, but when you’re an adult and you have some goals and dreams, you cannot be controlled by the way you feel about a specific activity.

It’s perfectly human to ‘feel’ this way but you can overcome such emotions and this brings us back to a previous principle or two…If you have a plan and are watching your progress you can’t wait to get started to see what kind of progress you’ve made.  It’s less about what you’re doing and it’s more about where you’re going, how you’re getting there and how you’re doing.

It can be comparable to a weight loss program.  Think about it.  When you start it really sucks!  You’re really hungry, maybe really tired, you’re sore from working out.  There’s growing pains you must endure in embracing the new lifestyle. But once you’re a few weeks in and you’re beginning to see some results; clothes are beginning to fit a little looser, muscles are starting to show and you’re feeling all kinds of energy.  NOW you’re feeling great and now you’re excited-you can’t wait for measurements, you can’t wait to step on that scale because you want to see how far you have come.  Here you clearly have a plan, you’re sticking to it and you’re watching your progress.

So yes, getting started can be the toughest part but you can make it so much easier if you focus 100% on your goals, dreams, plans and your progress.

“If you’re tired of starting over, Stop Giving Up!”

The Secret to Success: What is the difference between DOING and TRYING!? Part 5

Doing: FAILURE is NOT AN OPTION!

You know you are doing what it takes to succeed if FAILURE is NOT AN OPTION! Meaning when you start something and commit to it you FINISH what you started! You COMPLETE! There is NO BACK DOOR, no EXIT strategy in the back of your mind!

Finishing what you start is one of the KEY attributes of a HIGHLY successful person.

TRYing: Failure is always an option; you KEEP the back door OPEN

You know you are TRYing if failure is always an option because you KEEP the back door OPEN. When you do anything and keep an exit available for yourself you will never succeed and you may wonder why.  Here is WHY…You subconsciously START a project with the intention of quitting! You already decided not to finish!

When words such as “Well, if this doesn’t work out…”  or “It wasn’t meant to be” Or all the JUSTIFICATIONS, RATIONALIZATIONS and EXCUSES as to why you can’t or didn’t finish FILL your conversations…like “When the kids grow up…” , “When I don’t have so much on my plate…” and “When…fill in the blank!

If you haven’t already noticed, these success principles all tie in together.  They all share a certain type of mentality.  To quote one of our favorite teachers, Master Yoda, Luke says to Yoda “I can’t believe it.” And Yoda says “And that is why you fail.”

Belief is one of the most important elements to success.  When you believe in yourself, when you believe in your goals and your dreams, when you believe in what you are doing…You don’t have the mentality of keeping that back door open. You have the belief that failure is NOT AN OPTION.  That even if it takes longer and is harder than you anticipated you KEEP GOING!

Now, sometimes it takes time to build that belief.  Sometimes that attitude isn’t instantaneous; but the double edged sword is that you WILL NEVER FEEL that ‘rock solid belief’ if you keep that back door open!!!

The Secret to Success: What is the difference between DOING and TRYING!? Part 4

DOing:  You ACT as if you have ALREADY OBTAINED your goal.

You will know you’re ‘doing’  if you ACT as if you have ALREADY OBTAINED your goal. There is NO DOUBT in your mind that at a point in the future your TARGET will be hit. You know it is ONLY a matter of TIME and sticking to it. Success is inevitable; therefore you go after your target with CONVICTION.

TRYing:  You ACT as if it MIGHT or MAY NEVER HAPPEN.

If you are trying, you ACT as if it MIGHT or MAY NEVER HAPPEN. You have doubt filled thoughts so your actions reflect that. You have all kinds of exit strategies playing out in your head because you lack the conviction, commitment and confidence to see something through. In sports they say “You play scared…” and if you play scared in business nobody will believe in you or will follow you. People, whether they know it or not, will smell your fear and doubt. For MANY of you, this is the NUMBER 1 reason you are NOT where you want to be.

Now, I’m not saying that we all don’t have doubt sometimes; even the best of us experience a fleeting moment once in a while where we doubt or questions ourselves, our abilities or decisions.  The big difference here is that we DON’T LET DOUBT STOP US, control us or our outcomes.  When doubt strikes, feel it and move on!

You must be “In the Game” or “In the Zone” of building a company, of producing income, of achieving your targets! A prime example of this is found in nearly every sports movie there is! Football films for example…  The team that is the underdog in the final game and the chips are down and all of the sudden they get into the ‘zone’ because they know it’s their DESTINY to WIN. They KNOW they were meant to win, they operate like CHAMPIONS and therefore become ones!!  These movies are nearly all created from real life stories and there’s a reason for that…because this principle is TRUE.

A perfect quote to sum this up

“Whether you THINK YOU CAN or think you can’t, YOU’RE RIGHT.” ~Henry Ford

The Secret to Success: What is the difference between DOING and TRYING!? Part 3

Doing: PLANNED for SUCCESS with clear SET GOALS and STEPS

You know you are doing if you have PLANNED for SUCCESS with clear SET GOALS and STEPS.

You have a map of HOW you are going to get where you want to go. You know which direction, which turns and the destination. You have set out time (as previously mentioned in an earlier principal) to work towards your targets and how and what you need to do is clearly outlined. Daily and weekly activity is laid out and leads to the accomplishment of Monthly goals!

Success rarely happens by ACCIDENT, it happens ON PURPOSE!

TRYing: You have NOTHING more planned than a WISH

You know you are only trying if you have NOTHING more planned than a WISH.

You have a wish, a vision, and idea but nothing more; no map of how you’re going to get to that wish, vision, idea.  You hope, wish, dream, talk about and maybe even pray about it, however there is NO PLAN, no set or clear goals written down, let alone followed.

If you are serious about your financial freedom you are serious, you have to have a map.  You have to set out specific goals, targets and steps for you to get there.

So often we hear “But I don’t know what my next step is!”  If it is actually important to you… then figure it out!!! Do the research, talk to an expert, find someone who did it themselves and model them.

When you are truly committed to your financial freedom you let nothing stand in your way, not even excuses like: “I don’t know what my next step is.”  If you have a vision and not a plan, you have got to make sure you figure it out, NO EXCUSES.  Without that plan you can’t GET TO WORK or STICK TO IT in order to REACH YOUR GOAL.

What does a real plan entail…?

1.       Ask yourself “What do I want?” Set a date to accomplish it.

2.       What are the BIG steps I need to take to accomplish it?” set dates to accomplish those.

3.        “What are the daily and weekly activities that I need to do to accomplish the big steps?” Set aside the time and plan for that consistent activity.

4.       STICK TO IT!

5.       And of course Measure Monitor and Adjust!

The Secret to Success: What is the difference between DOING and TRYING!? Part 2

DOing: You are Watching your PROGRESS

You know you’re doing what it takes to succeed long term when you are closely monitoring your progress.

You understand that reaching your goals and targets is a JOURNEY not a destination! You treat each step in the right direction as reason to celebrate; each situation, positive or negative is an opportunity to learn. When this is your attitude time seems to fly by because you are focused and 100% present with what you are doing.

TRYing: You are Watching the CLOCK

You know you’re trying if you’re constantly watching the clock.

You are not concerned about the results or your progress.  You’re only concerned about getting through it. You have the attitude “Oh when am I going to be DONE with this?!” You are not embracing the journey, only focused on the destination; which often leads to Frustration over WHY you are not there yet!

Focusing on your progress allows you to stay present.  The present is where you’re at – at this moment. When you are present, you can CLEARLY see the Next Step!

This principle of Measure, Monitor, and Adjust is a constant lesson for our students in Catch Fire University.  You could even say it is HAMMERED into their heads over and over…it’s so vital to creating lasting success.

Remember going through the motions is not enough.  EVERYTHING is energy, and the type of energy you’re putting into your freedom will determine your results.  If it’s something that you’re dreading, watching the clock and doing just to say you did it…chances are you’re not going to be successful at it and probably aren’t going to be very happy either.

Now, it’s inevitable that you’re going to have struggles…and I PROMISE you are not going to ‘love everything’ about whatever vehicle (investment, business or both) to obtain your financial freedom, but that doesn’t mean that you’re not doing the right thing!!

Just because something isn’t happening for you RIGHT NOW does not mean that it will never happen.  You must stay out of that short-term mentality.  Don’t allow yourself to become discouraged…Just continue to Measure, Monitor and Adjust. Focus on your Progress, stay present and your results will come.
